I want to thank the team of Natural Resource Conflict Transformation Center-Nepal for their persistent efforts in leading this conflict to this point of agreement today. I think we are here at a Peoples’ Court today and we are writing our own fate. It took some time for both parties to realize that they need each other; the farmer realized that the school, which gives education to their children, is theirs too, the school realized that the farmers, whose children study in their school, are their people too. But eventually both parties realized each other’s point of view and we are here with this remarkable agreement. The conflict transformation process is very scientific and based on Win-Win strategy, we are all winning today, the farmers are winning, and the school is also winning. I want to give my full commitment to this process and I am ready to lead a political movement in favor of this agreement. The conflict transformation process has improved the relationships among conflicting parties; the parents used to avoid walking near school area in fear of being forced to sign in documents and the teachers also used to fear that those parents might attack them outside school premises if found alone; but now that fearful atmosphere has changed into a peaceful atmosphere. Such kind of change is sought by many other parts of Jhapa and Nepal; such change can contribute in socioeconomic development. I want to request the NRCTC-N team to work on more and more such conflict in Jhapa, your guidance and leadership is much more needed to transform natural resource based conflict cases.
